Precision Gears are a busy well equipped precision machine workshop, specializing in the manufacture of industrial gears and refurbishing gearboxes for a large variety of industries. They have been in business for over 40 years and pride themselves on delivering top quality machining and fitting services to their clients allover New Zealand.

About the Opportunity

Mō Te Huarahi  

Due to continued growth, Precision Gears are looking for another apprentice to join their close-knit friendly team in Rotorua.  There is a wide variety of skills and machines to learn here.

First duties and training will be learning the slotting machines(cutting keyways, splines etc.) and small manual lathes. There will also be basic fitting work on small gearboxes including cleaning.


About You          


For this opportunity you will need a great attitude, be keen to learn and be a team player.  You will also need -

  • NCEA Level 2 in English and Maths
  • Good measurement and numerical skills
  • Have a problem-solving mind set
  • A great work ethic, reliability, and a can-do attitude
  • A willingness to learn new skills
  • Good time management
  • At least Restricted Drivers Licence as there will be pick-ups and deliveries



Ngā Hāora  

Hours will be discussed with you at interview stage. Standard hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some overtime available.  


Te Tohu  

New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering(Trade) (Level4) with strands in Fitting and Machining

Graduates of the Fitting and Machining strand will also be able to:

Build and install complex machines where the use of fitting, machining, assembly, and precision alignment skills are required.

Read and interpret complex drawings and schematics to identify and remedy faults, and to contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement.
