About the Job

Mō Te Huarahi

Print bindery is the finishing stage of the print process where all of the print is bound, stitched, folded, or cut either by hand or machinery. 

This is a secure career path where you will become proficient in all aspects of print bindery work and in particular operating and maintaining folding, stitching and guillotine machinery. Being an apprenticeship, you will also be responsible for completing your apprenticeship modules to a high standard on time throughout your apprenticeship. You will receive ample support to do this. 

About You


Soar Print is currently looking for a keen, motivated and fit individual with a mechanical aptitude who is keen to take on a bindery apprenticeship and learn from highly skilled print bindery tradespeople. 

You will need: 

  • NCEA level two English, Maths and computing
  • Excellent attitude towards your work and a positive outlook
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task on machinery
  • Computer literacy
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Ability to take instruction and ask good questions
  • A willingness to learn and listen
  • A drive to better yourself
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Outstanding health and fitness
  • You do not need a driver's licence, but if you do drive to work, parking is available on site.


Ngā Hāora

Hours will be discussed with you at interview stage with Soar Print. In general work hours are flexible here, so long as you work 40 hours between 6 am and 6 pm. Many of the team work from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm Monday to Friday.


Te Tohu

New Zealand Certificate in Binding and Finishing (Level 4)

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Prepare job components and make ready, without supervision, the machinery to undertake high level production tasks to meet customer requirements in one of the production areas of print finishing, machine bookbinding and hand bookbinding.
  • Produce, without supervision, highly specialised production tasks to meet customer requirements and industry standards, in one of the production areas of print finishing, machine bookbinding or hand bookbinding.
  • Troubleshoot and rectify faults and problems throughout the production process.
  • Assist with production planning including target setting, estimating production costs, and estimating production requirements.
  • Assist with quality assurance of production and sustainable environmental practices, utilising preferred industry methods
