New qualifications launched for the print industry

Competenz is pleased to launch three refreshed qualifications for the print industry: New Zealand Certificate in Binding and Finishing (Level 3 and 4) and New Zealand Diploma in Print Industry Management (Level 5).

Working with industry experts, the programmes have been updated to keep pace with industry growth and enable improved job performance. They are a combination of practical on-the-job learning and theory. New resources have been developed to support learning in these areas.

These qualifications are fees-free until the end of December 2022 under the Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund (TTAF).

New Zealand Certificate in Binding and Finishing (Level 3 and 4)

  • Both the Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications have had required skills refreshed and unit standards streamlined.
  • The purpose of the Level 3 qualification is to provide the binding and finishing sector of the print industry with skilled individuals who can work in a bindery operator role with limited supervision.
  • The purpose of the Level 4 qualification is to provide the binding and finishing sector with skilled individuals who can work as print finishers, hand bookbinders, or machine bookbinders without supervision.
  • The Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications can be combined to form a New Zealand Apprenticeship.

New Zealand Diploma in Print Industry Management (Level 5)

  • The diploma content has been refreshed, providing more in-depth knowledge and skills to keep pace with industry growth and enable improved job performance.
  • This qualification aims to provide the printing industry with individuals who have the knowledge and skills to work as managers in a print organisation.
