Qualification detail

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the rail sector with graduates who have the skills and knowledge to work safely as a rail operator in a rail yard.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

• Apply knowledge of safe work practices to tasks in a rail yard
• Communicate effectively in a rail yard
• Perform shunting duties in a rail yard
• Operate signalling systems in a rail yard
• Perform train inspections for serviceability.

Note: the Rail Yard Operations and Train Driver qualifications can be combined and completed as an apprenticeship.
